(I have such problems with timing usually, unless I go with somebody.)

Saw Spider-Man 3 in the last first-run cinema it's in in my area - ouch. I liked it just fine, but I think I can see where people might have got restless with parts of the story. It's much more the character piece than super-hero action, although the Big Fight's pretty breathtaking in spots. There's some incredibly fast action in this film, which just highlights how much more brilliant the CGI artists have become with their constantly-improving tools.

And Toby can dance pretty wickedly. ^_^

Also raided a series of Asian markets, including one I found sort of by accident and a new one really near work. *ahem* [lolcat voice] I can has ginger grater! [/lol] It's a blue kitty - I confess, I went for the cute over the strictly-utilitarian. Now... let's see what I might make with this stuff [rubs paws together, looks at stash consideringly].

No new cute-dog pix this week. There's been fights and poo, neither of which you want to see. Bah.

We saw Spider-Man 3 this weekend too! I did like it better than Pirates 3, but there were easily 20 minutes of film that could have been cut out. Spidey's Pimpin Mack Daddy routine was hilarious, but it did go on a bit. So sad in the end, though! :(

Haven't seen Pirates yet - it's still got legs here, Spidey was down from 8 to 1 [/arachnid joke].

It was indeed hilarious -- and too broad. Sam, Sam, Sam, just because you found your long lost twin brother to play Spidey doesn't mean you can get indulgent with him like Sonnenfeld with Will Smith.

We needed a little more on 'But MJ, you said you were in love with The Other Guy here?' and seeing actual comprehension (or more of it, at least) and an apology on Peter's part might have been... vindicating. Or cathartic. Something.

I'm striking out all over, looking for the black sesame paste. Chinese market didn't have it, nor did Japanese. Trying Korean this week and then giving up and looking on the intarwebs instead.

I found some Chinese sesame paste this weekend, but I don't think it's exactly the same. You can hold off for the moment, I think, and let me see what I can find out about it for clarity (and unless there's some sneaky places to look, I tried Googling already, but sometimes my fu is weak).

Just stopping by to say hello.

When on Earth are you coming to a Potter meetup?

Yay! [hug]

Ummmm... when I have the energy over the weekend from dealing with these insane dogs? I'm working 2000-0400 currently, so my schedule matches up best with Manila, not Miami right now. [/apologetically]

I have heard it alledged that Raimi did not care for Venom as a villian, being more of an "old-school" Spidey fan, and therefore most of the scenes developing the Venom storyline (such as Pete's 'Pimpin' Mack Daddy' routine) were therefore played for laughs. That sequence certainly had me cringing in my seat and covering my eyes.

That's almost unnerving, because as I was trying to quantify what seemed 'off' about this movie, I came up with 'it's almost like he didn't care, or was distracted'. Then I considered I was saying that about Sam Raimi and it didn't seem plausible.

That sequence certainly had me cringing in my seat and covering my eyes.
The interesting thing about that reaction is that I suspect that's exactly what we were supposed to do, both on a meta level and a sympathetic level. If Raimi didn't like that storyline, he transmitted perfectly his dislike and made us harmonise with him on it; also, we're supposed to be repelled by Venomised Peter, even as we say 'huh, he looks pretty hot that way, buuuuuut....'

I'm starting to think it was more subtly skillful than I first thought.
