I find these two... lines of thought coming out of fan reaction to HBP to be not only highly offensive, but pretty much the most misogynistic... [struggles for strong enough word] traife to come out of anything not a neo-conservative's mouth:
- 'I think we all need to remember that JKR was pregnant, and therefore hormonal, for the majority of the time she was writing the great plot and horrible teenage romance(s). Hormones act like drugs, right?' -- No comment necessary.
- 'I'll bet he makes her change into Sirius during sex.' -- I still don't think most R/Sers are thinking this way, but you might want to consider trying to weed out the blatant woman-haters among you, just for your own sanity, perhaps? Because Remus willing to bed somebody with such a completely negative self-image that she'd turn into another person of a different gender is not any Remus I know.

I do feel a little sorry for the more reasonable H/Hrs right now. The Interview was rather... well... final.

Date: 2005-07-21 05:37 pm (UTC)Wait, what? Why would the bisexuality comment imply some form of misogynism? Do I hate men because I'm bisexual? Does believing in the possibility (until proven otherwise) of a gay relationship in the books require that one hate women?
I found a lot of R/T shippers (pre-HBP, obviously. I mean, I support R/T now, because, duh) who were R/T not because of the overwhelming amounts of canon evidence during OotP (as opposed to say the overwhelming R/H evidence in GoF), but because they were specifically uncomfortable with the idea of queer relationships. It honestly revolted me that the possibility of romance within a deep, long-term friendship (without, again, the ridiculous amount of clues found in H/H versus R/H debates) would be rejected out of hand because gay people, ewwwww. . .
Also, while it would be weird for Tonk's to assume SIRIUS's form specifically, I can't see why would it be misogynistic to play with gender roles in the bedroom. And if one is a Metamorphamagus, such play would be much easier to facilitate. Whether or not you believe that it would be OOC for it to take place in the context of the R/T relationship is another debate.
I will say that I definitely could see Tonks having had some rather transgressive fun (sexual or not) in her time.

Date: 2005-07-21 08:03 pm (UTC)Nonono! More that there's nothing 'wrong' with Remus feeling affection for a woman at this point, presuming a gay relationship which is in his past. As in, 'what's wrong with Remus being bi?'
It honestly revolted me that the possibility of romance within a deep, long-term friendship... would be rejected out of hand because gay people, ewwwww...
Well, that's silly, of course. I personally reject it just because I don't think they were. :)

Not as an absolute, but the inference I got from the comment was 'Oh, I don't like you as yourself, be anybody but Tonks as a girl.' Because, y'know, GURLS, yuck!
