So if anyone ever asks...

...why I spend so much time on the PC rather than in 'real life', I give you this comparison:
Birthday greetings on-line: about a dozen, rough count
Birthday greetings at home: two, maybe, waiting
Birthday greetings at work: zippo.
Welcome-back greetings at work: one whole-hearted, a couple with prompting
[snarling grin of sardonicism]
Anyway, from HP-land:
Somebody, please tell me I'm not the only person who works off the Christian/Wiccan concept(s) of 'words equal deeds'. That by sending the energy out (writing twincest, etc.) into the... the... [waves paw] the universe is the equivalent of taking physical action. I think chaos theory works into this somehow, too.
Gah.
piperx is sounding appropriately righteous about now....
I could tell I must have had an even better time than I knew when I got all depressed and weepy and suchlike on the flight back. I've become accustomed to anticipating a crash after I enjoy myself.
(The fact that I was watching
sidhe_darkrose's DVDs of Dangerous Beauty and EverAfter didn't help my mood in some ways. They're a great double-feature, by the way.)
I could tell for sure the holiday was over -- my shoulder/neck (pinched nerve?) started killing me last night. I spent most of the night whimpering and saying 'Ouch!' as I failed to find a comfortable position in which to lie.
Despite this, I managed to get dressed reasonable and out the door just about on time... to find Ein-y-Gwyn's battery deaddeaddead. My road service said '$40' and calling Pines Pontiac got me only voice mail instead of help. If I hadn't been hurting so much, I would have been all kinds of furious. Eventually, my neighbor came to the rescue - between his truck battery and my better jumper cables, Ein finally coughed to life.
I'm only having to make up most of an hour now [glower].
bucketgirl amused me muchly when she wished me 'happy birthday' then demanded when I was sending her something to beta. Doc has been saying the same thing.
Gotta tell you... I'm still in a sort of absorption phase. Need to sit back down with the Dementor (and try not to either flinch constantly or wax homicidal at the whole lot).
(Also need the UK audio copy on CD....)
Odd yearning: still thinking VERY fondly over the sesame-seed-covered Chinese pastry I had in Vancouver (Hastings Street, if I remember correctly). It was, I think, a sort of puffy rice ball with a sweet-bean-paste filling. I want some.
Pain is subsiding -- either that, or I've whacked it with enough naproxen sodium to knock out an elephant -- but I still can't wait to get out of here.
Same ol', same ol'.
So --
sit_good_dog -- did we win the Powerball yet?

- my GHOD, they've cast Emma as Trelawney. They did something RIGHT?
- Apparently, some idiot fen have inflicted the Phelps brothers (Fred and George, if you need the prompt) with the concept of twincest, so they (the fangirls) could have a photo of them holding up signs saying 'down with twincest'.
I read some of the comments from people who objected (in various strengths) to this move. What I find offensive is that many of these people don't object to twincest fic itself, but to exposing the actors/making it RL/taking it out of the squalid little closet to where JKR could see it. - Still think JKR put way too much effort into Sirius to waste him like this. So there. It's time for another interview, don't you think?

If you're referring to him, he has to get cast as something. Just hopefully not Mad Eye ;)

Chinese pastry!
Over here they are called buchi (BOO-chi) and practically every Chinese place serves them for dessert. Those and cold mango puree with tapioca balls...mmm...
Re: Chinese pastry!
Date: 2003-10-07 05:29 pm (UTC)I seem to remember the outside was brown, like it had been toasted or lightly fried, but I might be misremembering.
The bean paste wasn't very gooey, I think, but it kinda mushed into the pastry-part when bitten into.
Re: Chinese pastry!
The sesame seeds are toasted, I think, and maybe "gooey" wasn't the right word -- more like just "pasty" and it can mix up a bit with the chewy outside.
