Just for the sake of sorting things, who else besides [livejournal.com profile] ashavah and [livejournal.com profile] lizbee are from the opposite side of the planet to me, please? I'm afraid I've lost track. ^_^

(It's good to know for worrying about hurricanes and such, right?)

Drat. I have no antipodean-type iconage, other than Farscape. John will have to do.

My dear Blade, you're in the same time zone as me. Hardly counts as 'other side'.

Anyway, you're filed under 'Huskies', not 'Dingos' (with apologies to any Kiwis reading).

Although, y'know, we're expecting SNOW this week ... and could still get snowfalls in May. That's a mite different from Florida, in my mind ....

Do I count?

I do, right? I'm about 11/12 timezones away from you.

But FWIW, the weather here has been HAAAAWTTTT and muggy because it is summertime. We're not expecting any rain until June, but I don't know what kind of effect La Niña is supposed to have on us. o_O

I run on Manila time now! :D But notquite - the Philippines are speshul. ;) It's started getting hot here, but won't start thinking about intolerable until May. We're still getting nice breeze in the shade and coolish nights.

As to La Niña effects...
December 1998

Last year, the Philippines suffered from a long drought attributed to the El Nino weather phenomenon, a result of higher temperatures in the Pacific Ocean. La Nina, attributed to an abnormal cooling of the sea surface, is expected to cause heavy rains for the rest of this year. The weather bureau expects that La Nina will intensify the effects of at least five more tropical storms expected to strike the country in coming months. Provinces on the east side of Luzon, the Philippines' main island, will feel the brunt of the storms, Verceles said.

La Nina's connection to Philippine landslide

Indeed, the Philippines are one of the countries that's most likely to be unusually wet during a La Nina pattern, along with Indonesia and parts of northern Australia.

Philippines Says El Nino Over, Watching for La Nina
PHILIPPINES: March 15, 2007

Last week, the US Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration said La Nina may form in the equatorial Pacific in the next two to three months.

"It is not 100 percent definite that La Nina will come in after El Nino," Cruz said, adding the Philippines was in the midst of its summer which runs from March to early May.
...
Cruz said the El Nino weather pattern that affected the Philippines late last year followed the La Nina anomaly that started in November 2005 and lasted until early 2006.

La Nina, which is associated with increased rainfall, causes storms and flooding in many parts of Asia. It was felt in the Philippines from December 2005 till March 2006.
May?? What do you guys do with June/July/August, then?

June/July/August is rainy (typhoon) season, and in the "-ber" months it's cool and dry because of the winds coming in from Siberia (or so my dad says).

Huh. Ours isn't separate like that. Rainy = hurricane = summer. Well, most of the year = summer, but you know what I mean.

So March/April/May = summer, June/July/August = rainy, September/October/November = Siberia... that leaves January and February. What are they?

January is usually more of Siberia, while February seems to be the transition between that and summer - sometimes it can be crispy cool but I remember other Februaries that can also be hot and sticky!
