March 16: Margarethe Cammermeyer

Glenn Close starred as Col. Cammermeyer in the TV biopic Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story, winning the 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Special' Emmy; the movie received several other Emmys as well as numerous other awards.

According to this September 2006 interview, Cammermeyer had received a letter in 2006 asking her to return to active service despite her public exposure as a lesbian.
