[livejournal.com profile] howardtayler introduces a new Toy.

Howard's the creator of Schlock Mercenary, if you didn't already know that. He and his wife are also clever, prudent and frugal with money — making and spending. At least, they seem awfully good at managing it to me. Anyway, Howard vets the advertisers he accepts for display next to his comic, and will plug products, services and companies he thinks are honestly worth it. Howard's a smart guy, I'll look at stuff he speaks well of in a positive light.

Therefore, when Howard plugged Wotan LLC's product 'Kayuda' in the Schlock blog, I was eager to check it out. Remember when Writely came out? This is very probably niftier than Writely (which is now known as 'Google Docs').

I signed up on Kayuda after looking at my third sample document. Howard's apparently been using it for a while. [livejournal.com profile] shadesong (Queen of LiveJournal, as she's called sometimes, with tongues in cheeks) has a story outline shared out and looking very intriguing. Actually... it's more like a story web.

Take a look. The right side of your brain may thank you.

I just signed up! It looks interesting -- I've been doing a lot of nonlinear writing and planning lately, and have a lot of trouble doing it on the computer. And I keep running out of sketchbooks... So this is just what I need.

It might kick-start my script back up, too.

Hey, did you see the SquidDrive I commented about in your LJ? Too bad their stuff's so expensive....

"Unsupported browser. We currently support the following browsers, none of which you want to use."

Sorry, can't do much about that. :/ I can't access it from work, either.

Copied from [livejournal.com profile] perldiver's comments below, because I wasn't sure you'd see it:

I'm sorry about the browser thing. We've only got two web devs, and we had to make some choices about what we were going to support. We wanted to support Safari (especially since every single one of us is a Mac user), but it's Javascript engine just isn't up to the job. Safari v3.0 is supposed to have much better support, so we'll reevaluate then. As to Opera and the various Linux browsers...well, as of 2 days ago, if it's using a Gecko core you should be able to get onto the site and it should work for you, but we don't promise. Anything other than that is very unlikely to work...we are pushing the limits of CSS and Javascript **hard**, and we figured it was better to just tell people flat out that we couldn't serve them rather than waste their time.

For our information, what browser do you want to use?

Dave Storrs here. Thank you very much for this mention. We've been biting our nails ever since launch (this past Monday), terrified that Kayuda was going to sink like a rock. It's fantastic to see people mention us and actually seem to enjoy it.

For everyone: We love to hear from you...suggestions, questions, flames, anything. Silence is our biggest fear. If there is anything at all that we can do to improve the site for you, please feel free to drop us a line: info@kayuda.com or visit the forums http://forums.kayuda.com/ I can't promise that we can or will do it, but we sure will try.

Wow, people keep turning up in my LJ from nowhere! ^_^

Hey, you've got Shadesong on your side. One good word from her and your servers are overtaxed *grin*. I took a look at a couple of her public workspaces and she's been busy.

Me, I like webtoys that do things like this (even if I can't use it at work yet (without sneaking over to the testbed)), and hopefully it'll get my brain moving again. Thanks for providing it. Your setup reminds me of how Celtx is working things out - a good free service/app, with promises of extras for subscribers. That way, everybody's happy.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm flattered.

P.S. 'Chief Evil Overlord' - you should look into Ootori Kyouya as an anime role model. ;)

ACtually, I'm using Opera. Mostly, I'm curious as to what it's supposed to do; when I went there I didn't find the introductory page very illuminating, so it seemed that checking the examples was the easiest way to find out. And, of course, it wasn't.

FWIW, I don't expect everybody to support everby browser; I'm just a little disappointed because [livejournal.com profile] shadesong has been so very impressed with the product and now [livejournal.com profile] sff_corgi . . . I feel a little left out.
