Three things... no, four... no, five!

.
They keep coming to mind in little groups.

Pirates of the Caribbean
Yes, I did see it! But everybody's been WTCKH'ing so enthusiastically about it, I guess I figured I didn't need to add my two pieces-of-eight.

Depp was just as... ¡ai! Scenic as I'd expected. Ever since 21 Jump Street and emphasised by Edward Scissorhands....

Landscape, art direction, cinematography, etc etc etc -- all gorgeous. My favourite part really does have to be the matchmove FX for the beams moonlight on the cursed. There's an animation term... 'kine'-something... of which this is a digital form. Gorgeous.

I was amused by the 'steal' of the underwater-boat gag from Burt Lancaster's The Crimson Pirate. I was also strongly reminded, in the character interactions, of Nate and Hayes, which I'm convinced is still being overlooked.

I've been watching 'The Big O' on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. More gorgeous animation, and rather recursive, as it's been deliberately influenced by the animated 'Batman', which itself was influenced by anime in general. Roger Smith is a ringer for the young Bruce Wayne. I'm amused by his fondness for black.

His android (gynoid?) sidekick, R. Dorothy Wainright, has a Pinocchio complex. Is it just me, or is this a favourite theme of robot-based animes? She's been asking Roger some difficult questions -- including if he would have fallen in love with her under different circumstances. He's not thinking of her as a 'person' yet, although the series leads us to believe she's pretty much her own A.I., a silicon citizen.

I'd like to see the whole first-season run again when I can pay proper attention to it. Darn elegant.

Going to try for the Gryffindor Tower Revenge Challenge -- but I only have a day and a half to do it. Eek! Such the masochist.

Textual Sphinx thinks she might get to work on her next chapter next month. Yay!

(At least I'm feeling sort-of-better than yesterday.)

Good luck on the challenge! My co-author is perfecting our entry at the moment, and I'll be posting it in LJ as well as on GT. I think the story is uproariously funny--I might be the only one, though. ;)

I'm glad you're feeling better :)

And let me know if your GTRC will need Niffling :D

You should already have it, actually....

[identity profile] greatwideleap.livejournal.com 2003-07-30 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely don't have it yet.

Drat. OK, trying again. I might have remembered your e-dress just-wrong-enough. :(

Just got it. Will read it on the morrow when I'm fresh and unclouded by sleepiness :)

Is there a certain time you need it by?

Ummm... now. [hapless look]

Deadline is Harry's Birthday, but they weren't as specific as SQ was.
