Better than the other day, thanks. For one: paycheque -- which leads to two: dog food. No, real kibble and stuff, I'm not being allegorical-like again.

At least we're not living in that theoretical nightmare a Bush presidency would have left us. Some of the essays predicting what he would have done to the country are dystopian SF, really! President Gore still had to deal with the cleanup from the partly-foiled attempt to crash planes into the Twin Towers and D.C. buildings (those poor, brave people in Pennsylvania) so the neo-cons who were yapping at Clinton's heels are yammering on about how the Democrats always get themselves into wars -- but Afghanistan's got a fairer government in place now.

And when they caught that guy behind the attack planning, who apparently had been watching a translated copy of Escape from New York too many times, it took the wind out of a lot of the Wahhabist militant faction. Even on the most partisan Arabic TV, he looked cowardly.

The hurricane season's been getting awful -- first Florida gets whacked on a bunch of ways from Sunday in 2004, then Dennis, Katrina and Rita weed-whacking the Gulf this past year... it's a good thing FEMA was kept 'running hot', so when New Orleans looked so threatened, they were able to jump right in immediately. It's sad so many homes got flooded, even with the Army Corps of Engineers working on the levees until the last minute. At least the emergency team the Dutch goverment flew over were able to help minimise the damage.

At least none of the farfarfar-left ecofreakies can blame it on us not coordinating with the rest of the planet. The Kyoto Treaty isn't the best arrangement, but our name's on it. And President Gore's big incentives to develop and purchase alternative-fuel vehicles means I'm gonna get to buy a exhaust-less car soon! They get some awesome mileage, great for those long road trips.

Well, have to get back to making plans for my summer trip. It's amazing how they've managed to upgrade travel security without causing long lines or making me feel like I'm about to be strip-searched if I look sideways at people, even if you're travelling internationally. It's a good time to be American and Terran both.
