Tolerance and Space (or at least Orbit)

One of these days, I shall do another 'catching-up-to-
anony_ms' post, with Much Linkage, as she sends me lots of articles. It might be the last one I do for a bit, because she is now [starts drumroll, winks at
fasterthanlight]...
...so I think she'll be busy.
But while I simmer towards that post, I give you this link from another Librarian, the aforewinked
fasterthanlight:
Might anybody out there in Flist-land know how
krazykitkat and I might save that shuttle backflip WMV to our harddrives? The usual right-click thing isn't working for me.

*whimper* Oh... my. NASA had cameras everywhere. I am, as I type, watching a piece of footage with sound that could be entitled 'My Life as a Solid Rocket Booster'. It was the whole launch, and are those ice crystals forming? And the separation, then spinning and spinning (look, there's my twin SRB, right over there) and OMG, that's the sound of terminal velocity, isn't it? Then BOOM, and we're looking up at the drogues slowing the splashdown into the Atlantic, tackle jingling like rigging on a sailboat... and the camera/microphone worked the whole time.
Then they showed the one for the right SRB. :D
Yeah, this WAS worth switching to DirecTV.

Meanwhile... my mother is off visiting family, so I'm here boring my boxer silly.

...Somewhere, in all of these stirrings, I see the seeds of a wisdom-based, Earth-honoring, pro-democracy movement -- one that affirms and applauds religious and spiritual impulses, while opposing fundamentalism, chauvinism and theocracy. Over time, this kind of progressive movement has the potential to win -- and win big -- in the United States. To be honest: it is probably the only type of progressive movement that stands a chance in a country as religious as ours.
