Ach, my puir Visa....
Mar. 5th, 2005 11:11 pmIt was fun going to the Scottish Festival with Debbie, but we didn't end up staying as long as we've done previously -- half the merchants weren't there! None of the kilt shops showed up; the place I got my spectacularly nifty Welsh-flag tote bag didn't come either. With no shade -- really, none -- and the dryness, even a little cooler than normal, it wore thin too quickly. We saw the sheepdog demo, we shopped, we split.

This woman makes great handthrown cups, bowls, goblets, jugs, vases... all the traditional selection one might find in practical pottery. Her glazes trend to an incredible peacock blue, through a speckled dark warm blue to black, with occasional excursions to pastel aqua and a sort of olivey-red. She's usually got pieces in blue/blue-greens. On one side of many pieces, especially the drinking vessels, she'll have a plaque with Celtic swirls or zoomorphs... or even a Scottish heraldic lion or thistle.
I think I bought more food items than ever before. I usually pick up a box of Cameron's sausage rolls, frozen; but this year, the inFamous Welsh Cookie Company welshcake booth was back (we cheered each other's Dreigiau Cochion) and I got their 'gift box' of one dozen of each tempting variety they make. Debbie wanted to stop for supper on the way back, so I ended up with a loaf and some miscellanous goodies from the Atlanta Bread Company in Doral, too. OK, I did get a MacMillan clan-badge-embroidered golf shirt 'cause I can wear that at work and a pan-Celtic T-shirt because I wanted the statement.

By the way, I should have had these people on my list of links from the other post: Crafty Celts. They used to come down to Trimarian Crown events a lot, but I think they've become too busy... because their stuff is REALLY nice.
Check out Wheat Goddesses, too. I haven't seen these in person, found the link by happenstance, but these are really intriguing pieces of creative weaving and folkart. She also has some nice hats -- with period documentation, even.
