Apparently Florida Boxer Rescue doesn't think I'd be an appropriate home for a rescued boxer.

I really love all these people making judgements about me without even bothering to, oh, ask followup questions. I guess the half-acre yard, air conditioning and pretty much around-the-clock attention wasn't sufficient somehow.

Oh, and because I forgot (I always forget!) the other day:

Brighid/Imbolc icon

Happy Brigit/Imbolc/Candlemas/Groundhog Day.
Celebrate the rekindling of the light of knowledge.

Belatedly.

That's really weird. I wonder why. *hugs, cause that must've hurt*

It's kind of insulting because people should be so lucky to be one of my dogs. Really. ([considers whole tangled mess of adoption, dependent-minor abuse, parental yearning issues...] doesn't matter much 2 legs or 4, honestly)

Now, if it was just her (the volunteer's) boilerplate response because that particular dog wasn't available... why didn't she say so?

*hugs* You sound like you're a great "dog mommy." It's a common complaint that rescues can get so petty and picky that dogs are denied homes with good people. Sometimes it's a sincere attempt on rescue's part to ensure the welfare of the dog, and sometimes it's a matter of the rescue person getting so neurotic and overprotective "there's no PERFECT home for the dog, therefore he's not going anywhere!" It SUX for you, and of course for the dog.

I was just making snide comments about it to [livejournal.com profile] sit_good_dog, one of which went something like:
I'm not a 'suitable' home because I've rescued a boxer before myself and it's one per customer?

http://www.sff.net/people/corgi/Medeni.htm -- scroll down, the boxer I picked up out of the street and had to treat for non-contagious mange until she died (that's another story) is the cute li'l brindle person after the plethora of Medeni-photos.

That is so stupid. You seem like an ideal owner for a rescued boxer to me.

Stupid Florida Boxer Rescue.

Thank you; that's both kind and gratifying.

Sorry to hear that; I know you'd be a good owner of any dog. *hugs*

I already am, that's why it's irritating and insulting. But I didn't need them to rescue either the boxer I had before, or the boxer I have now, so I'll just not bother with them in the future either.

Junk like that is why I don't work with an established breed rescue any more.

My vet's mom told me one of their assistants was refused by... was it the Humane Society? She was in college and one of her parents was dead. Because it wasn't a 'complete family' they turned her down!

So if you know anybody with a gently-used boxer bitch.... ;)

Hey, if you're serious....

Are you dead-set on a pB boxer?

Remember where I live? #2 breed in this area for strays (after generic hounds) are boxerish/pitish/american bulldogs.

Right now, I'm waiting to see if I can get one of the remaining puppies from Harbor Grace's last litter of Cardies. If I have to spend my whole tax refund on her AND haul tuchus up to Indianapolis to pick her up, I'm probably not gonna be able to fetch a boxer, too.

I really did want to get D'Argo a playmate close to his own size, but Medeni dealt with Bacci just fine and the puppy's about 6 months right now, so....

[wants one of EVERYTHING!]

WTF?

Stupid Humans. Well organizations are as different as people, try another. Or try the good old not-so-picky Dog Pound. That's how we discovered Tegan. Maybe you won't have a complete pedigree nor medical history but you will certainly have saved a life.

It's not a matter of pedigree as if I have to walk into one of those places, especially the county Animal Control and consider saving only ONE DOG... I'll want to slit my wrists rather than deal with the feeling. It's bad enough when I'm looking for a specific dog who's been picked up.

Y'know?
