Lovely way to spend my 'weekend'. While I'm on midnights, I have Thursday and Friday off, which means 0700 Thursday to 2300 Saturday. Got home after a very groggy shift, got to bed almost at a reasonable hour (I was playing some with my Zillions -- need to learn how to write their code so I can playtest my chess variant, see if it works at all). Woke up too early with cramps, took care of that situation, but went back to sleep, woke up the second time at 2300 with a sick headache and spent the next 3-4 hours being a queasy wet blanket.

Thankfully, it cleared up, but that totally ruined a whole day off. I mean, the only thing that's open after [livejournal.com profile] sit_good_dog wraps for the night are Teh Evil (Wal*Mart) and 7-11. How boring. 'Course, I'm already overdrawn, so it's not like I had any money to go spend, anyway.... *sigh*

OK, enough dull RL stuff.

Does anybody know anyplace to download Lost episodes? I've a friend from work on paternity leave who missed one episode and was hoping I could find someone who taped it. I believe it was the ep that aired before Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Space scienceAstronomy geex might find this site, 'SolStation.com', interesting. Just this article alone, which mentions the possibility of brown-dwarf, multiple-Jupiter-sized companions for Sol, is worth taking some time. I haven't even poked around the rest of it yet.

Anyway, this sort of set me off (that and cutting out a pound of flesh buying Sailormoon Sailor Stars on DVD) into thinking in a sort of fanficcy way about What Happened Next, meaning after the Sailormoon story ended. For one thing, Sedna was discovered. Also, in the manga, there's a lot more detail about sailor senshi from other star systems, not just Kakyuu Hime and her Starlights.

Here's the ideas I was playing with, not to the point of fanfic (drop in the ocean, what's the point?) but just to toss out there. After Chaos is defeated, at least in this time, Kakyuu starts spreading the news to friendly systems about the amazingly powerful princess, the heir to the Silver Millenium. Phobos, Diemos, Luna and Artemis, curious about what really happened to their home planets after Eternal Sailormoon's healing spread out from the Cauldron, get permission to take some leave to visit Coronis and Mau.

On the way, they visit the other planets from which the Animamates came -- Cocoon, Mermaid and Chuu. Sailor Nyanko has returned to her position as the senshi of Mau's moon, and guardian to Mau Princess. Sailor Red Crow has been reborn in her old position, one of Coronis's system's many senshi serving the system's royal family. Chuu has many moons rather than being a big system -- after some alarm at being visited by Mau-ese, Chuu Princess welcomes them, introducing them to the penitent lunar senshi, Mouse. The situation on Cocoon is similar.

Stopping on Mermaid, the King and Queen there request the Solar party to take two of their young daughters with them, Triton and Nereid, to be trained by the obviously powerful senshi serving the Moon Princess. On the way back home, they make a last stop in the neighboring Canis Kingdom, comprised of the systems of Sirius and Procyon. The first princess of Sirius, Sailor Anubis, introduces her cousin Sailor Acteon from the Procyon system. The King and Queen are off visiting the Viceroy and Vicereine at Acteon's home. The two young women, after demonstrating their other forms resembling a golden akita inu and similar shiba inu, request to also be taken to train and guard one of the senshi-princesses of the Sol System.

Back on earth, a lot of people have had life-changing events as a result of their starseeds being yanked out and shoved back in. Hotaru is approached by two older students, mixed-gender twins, redheads -- who say they're remembering they're the children of and heirs to the Duke and Duchess of Titan, and being twins, both inherited the Guardian powers of that moon... and with those powers as Sailor Titan and Titan no Knight, the responsibility to act as protectors to the Princess of Saturn.

Over preventing a car accident, Setsuna encounters an engaging young man with auburn hair and Asian features -- but it turns out he's actually a Canadian Inuit, and Sedna no Knight. Back during the heyday of the Silver Millenium, Sedna acted as a fortress outpost where outside visitors were received and screened before being allowed to proceed in-system. When the Silver Millenium was destroyed, Sedna and his fortress were 'shut down', put into suspension instead of being destroyed with the rest of the kingdom. With the recent approach (relatively speaking) of Sedna to the sun and the great tumult the battle with Chaos caused, Sedna Knight awoke reborn on earth and ready to take up his post again. He has powers of ice and darkness. He flirts, too.

Mamoru is glad to see another male guardian or two and promptly takes them out to a restaurant to bond.

The 'animal guardians' finally return and are indeed stopped at Sedna Fortress (no fancy fairytale girl-castle, this one). Sedna sends for the Outer Senshi to check through the new kids, which works out well as Sailoruranus is promptly accosted by her two new 'dogs', and Sailorneptune acquires her two fish-maids (tails optional depending on environment). Now the only senshi without 'staff' or 'courtiers' (depending on how you want to look at things) are Mercury and Jupiter. Hmmm.... If asteroids can have senshi, Jupiter should have the Galilean moons following her around at least, no? [shrug] Somebody else's problem. ^_^

Anyway, that's as far as I got with my musings, other than the fact that the Canis Kingdom's King and Queen's names are Sirius and Sothis. Maybe.

O_O Whoa.

Okay, bookmarking this entry. I read the whole thing and understood half of it, so I'll read it again after I purchase and read the other two books of Stars, (which, I very much assume are not like the anime, but should be close enough).

One of the things I wonder is about Chibiusa's kingdom - her day when she "stands alone as a proud senshi." It seems everything (nearly everything's) taken care of - she has four asteroid scouts who've sworn loyalty to her, it seems almost definite that she would hook up with Helios, (I mean.. come on. That's 'fairy-tale ending' all the way.

;_; Plus, they're *really* cute together in the manga).

The books do raise a lot of questions. She and Hotaru seem to be soulmates - literally, ("I feel like we were destined to meet..." Hotaru grows to be her age after being reborn and they spend all their time together), but technically, she's a scout of Sailor Moon the older, right? ::shrugs:: Not necessarily, I guess.

I see Uranus, (who REALLY loves Sailor Moon), Neptune and Pluto remaining Sailor Moon's senshi... maybe Pluto would return to Chibiusa (that whole "being able to stay in a timeless zone" thing [if that still exists? I don't know]) - and Chibiusa gets Saturn, and the asteroid scouts -- she'd have six -- then she could do some crossover with scouts of other systems, for two more, at least.

When in the world would she grow up?? By her ... second grade(?) year training with Sailor Moon in the books she's "937 years old."

Fics would definitely be called for.

I'd like to write some fic for the previous era, (Silver Millenium, history before that and stuff), too -- there's a lot hinted at but never delved into.

*whew!* Lots of writing you did, (will be sure to come back soon).

See, I said you'd be the only one interested. ;)

Princess Lady Serenity -- the Prince Charles of Crystal Tokyo. The question is not quite as much 'when will she grow up,' 'cause she got some height and figure while in the 20th century, but if her parents become effectively immortal, when will she accede to the throne?

The idea of senshi transferring isn't too big an idea - Pluto is precendent for that, because before her reincarnation, she was... really, really old. [goes to look up how old is old]. She got her orders directly from Queen Serenity, after all (Silver M.)

But after rereading the summaries on that website, usagiandmamoru.com or whatever, it's practically engraved in crystal that Elios, priest or not, will be Lady Serenity's royal consort. Pluto hasn't seen past that generation, so we don't know what happens with her family.

I'm still wondering about the Earth guardian, as there's Moon and ChibiMoon at the same time, but it's unclear whether Queens (and Kings) still serve that way. How come we only ever met princesses?

Wish Naoko-sama would do a questions page the way J.K. Rowling has.

Hmmm... I forgot to include that ChibiEarth child-of-Haruka-and-Michiru idea, didn't I? Reproductive technology can be a wonderful thing. ;) The colouring would work out perfectly, though. And the symbolism of the child being a sort of third element in the family (earth, sea, sky).

"'Eyelashes fluttering'? Sounds more like yaoi than law enforcement!"

Like I often say: Truth is stranger than Fiction because Fiction has to make sense!

Sorry you had a crumby week. I just want February to be over. Who thought it was a good idea to put the Grammys and the Oscars in the same city two weeks apart? Have them killed.

Yeah, well, anything non-fannish coming out of Texas right now (e.g. [livejournal.com profile] themorningstarr, [livejournal.com profile] bucketgirl...), I hold highly suspicious anyway.

Must share your icon with [livejournal.com profile] janeylou (from Dogstar), who will squee and grow faint and stuff. ^_^

BTW, I think you missed my question about where the Golden Globes were held? You commented about the Hilton, but didn't confirm or deny....

iSnape icon, wallpaper and other squeeworthy goodness is from [profile] pen_and_umbra who seems to be eager to share. I tend to wonder what is playing on his pod... if it were iRemus we would know that it's big band boppin'!

GG were at the Hilton, yes. I thought I answered that. Tomorrow I have to call all the record companies, something I hate doing, to try to persuade me to tell them about their Grammy parties. If I Had My Way, I would take you away from all that in Florida, relocate you to LA and have you make my cold calls to everybody. You have no trace of shyness plus you have the tenacity of a bulldog, or a Corgi, which is even more. Just saying. Le Sigh.

[points at icon and makes high-pitched noise] Must get soundtrack!

I got my Stars from an eBay 'Buy Now', despite the ominous warnings from VKLL about what's found on eBay. The packaging is really gorgeous and professional; the only real problem on the disks is a glitch about 20 minutes in on Disk 3, which I have to write to my vendor about. There's a couple of floaty subtitles in two places (no big deal; kinda funny, really) and the translations seem reasonable.

If I can get that one disk swapped out, I'll be most satisfied.

Then... I just have to afford 4 more seasons plus the movie set. :headdesk: Between this, Farscape, Stargate and West Wing.... *moan*

I thought you'd find this book review interesting. A few choice snippets:

"Blasphemy, after all, is a charge of libel against someone who doesn't objectively exist"

"since accelerated advances in weapons technology and biochemistry have made it all too easy for would-be martyrs to take unthinkable numbers of innocents along with them in their pursuit of paradise, it is time for civilised societies to accord less respect to established religion, rather than more"

"religion is the only area of human knowledge in which it is still acceptable to hold beliefs dating from antiquity and a modern society should subject those beliefs to the same principles that govern scientific, medical or geographical inquiry - particularly if they are inherently hostile to those with different ideas. It's easy to laugh at the man who believes aliens are sending him messages through his hairdryer, but we don't let him run schools or make public broadcasts as if his view were anything other than a delusion."

Yikes! Bit harsh, aren't they? Good arguments, but... harsh.

And this: It's easy to laugh at the man who believes aliens are sending him messages through his hairdryer, but we don't let him run schools or make public broadcasts as if his view were anything other than a delusion.

Riiiight. Start scratching some people in authority and see what they really believe. I think ke will find a lot more weirdness than ke expected, even culturally. For instance, Cubans (as a generalisation only, of course) think you can get fat from donating blood. Yet we just 'elected' one as junior senator from Florida, never mind all the mayors....
