I have to try to be discreet here, so pardon vaguenesses.

I just spoke to one of the customers I support, who told me a pretty wonderful story about how fans and their 'idols' (to use the Japanese term) can get along without one side or the other being psychotic.

The customer in question is a major toy collector, and had won the auction of a unique TV collectible, a prop doll used by a child actor in a genre show from years ago. The actor, who had kept the doll after the series, and the collector subsequently became acquainted on a friendly basis, especially since the collector had been wearing kir airline uniform shirt and the actor saw potential in that.

They got to the point where the actor's mum called the collector and asked for help in getting the actor away from some bad influences - 'friends' who were substance-abusing and generally Not Good.

When the collector confronted the actor with great vehemence about the problem, the actor protested that ke didn't have anyplace to stay in the city other than with the Bad Influences.

The collector said, 'Stay at my house! It's a fan's dream come true.'

And so it did.

(The collector still giggles with delight about the whole situation, too.)

And then they done sex
People, canon =/= cannon.

If you're writing about cannon characters, I'm going to picture 17th century battleships with giant metal tubes shooting massive balls into the sky that will inevitably cause much destruction. If you're writing about canon characters, I'm going to picture House and Wilson doing naughty things in hospital gowns involving stethoscopes, and Rodney McKay riding a stargate through Wraith hiveships. I'd much rather picture that than two cannons bonking.

'Ooh, baby, your balls are so heavy!'
'You're so big!'

I don't want to picture that. Really.
