But I did. Didn't put sun protection on either Ein-y-Gwyn (no windscreen sunshield) -- and jeez, he was facing south! -- nor me, past the hat (no sunscreen applied). I now have a pair of slightly annoying arcs of reddened skin along the sides and back of my neck, where the plait didn't swing.

I'm trying to remember to not scratch my arms too hard, since they're a little itchy too. There's a drawback to having mostly stopped chewing my fingernails....

Let's see... [burrows around in Treo] I've been collecting a few interesting things I wanted to share... thank goodness for WLRN! That's our National Public Radio station here. Almost always has interesting stuff, until the School Board meetings start.

Here's one [drags out sheet music]. Perfect for this month, too -- I'll have to tack her in somewhere. Turns out that a Victorian-era woman from New York was the first American female symphonic composer... and she based it on Irish melodies! Look for a Women's History Month profile of Amy Beach to be double-heading some day this month here.

<a href="http://www.richardberman.net/" target="_blank">Richard Berman</a> was on the WLRN show <i>Folk and Acoustic Music</I> this after noon (as I drove to work). The show itself is a long-running weekend programme hosted by <a href="http://www.floridamusic.org/michaelstock.html" target="_blank">Michael Stock</a>; Michael features musicians as they're passing through town for performances and gets to converse with them in the studio, where they will also perform bits and pieces of their music.

Richard did <a href="http://www.richardberman.net/music/story01.ram">'Broken Wings'</a>, which was really rather amazing. It's the story of Dædelus witnessing Icarus's downfall, and became this whole <i>metaphor</i> for parents and destructive (destroyed?) children.

Another song would be reallyreally popular right now: 'Alamagordo' was based on a host, her S.O. and Richard going to a Wal*Mart on the way back from a site-seeing trip out there in New Mexico to buy him a replacement watch. When Richard saw the expression flicker over the store greeter's face when she saw these two women walk into her store hand-in-hand, he was inspired. He went on to comment about how one of the two, when shown the song before he published it, said she didn't know if she would have been holding her partner's hand if she were a man; Richard also said that he admires people like this who're on the front lines of inducing tolerance... even if it's just a little thing like that Wal*Mart woman not flinching so much the next time some simple affection crosses her path.

(You'd all love the lyrics.)

It's taken me about 5 hours to write just this much, in-between a little research mining, customer calls, and trying to get one lousy package of ramen stuffed into my stomach, so I'm posting while the posting's good.

[glares at phone] Could be worse... could be worse....

P.S. Something I forgot in the hubbub last week. Monday last was <b>Robert Conrad</b>'s birthday, too. He was a sturdy Germano-Celtic... 69?!? Ack. Wow.

Hey, I know a lot of people go 'Huh?' or wrinkle their noses; I don't like his politics. But he's a smart, savvy and honourable man who's managed to keep two separate families in good shape along with his dignity and integrity in a business not condusive to either. He's also my touchstone for 'handsome'. Don't mess with the short ones....

Amy Beach is awesome. I took a course on Women & Music and we studied her for a while. Let me know if you need anything on her.

Also, seems as good a place as any to let you know about this, which it doesn't look like you've seen (if you have, apologies, and apologies but I'm having trouble tonight and it won't come up as a tidy link):

I shall charge you with being my chief Amy Beach nitpicker, then.

It's not me! I never even knew about this (which is a bloody shame)! I didn't sign up, somebody else did, but she wrote down me instead??

I mean... I'll do it in a pinch, but....

(G., it's a shame we missed out on this one! They're almost done!)

Uh, I'll have to re-read my book then. I just remember that she was really kick-ass. Heh.

Weird that she put your name when she meant Churri! Sorry to get you freaked out; thought I was being a good samaritan. Heh. It has been fun, although other than my chapter I haven't had much time to comment.

Heh. She must've posted AND mailed me. Funny! I never knew I was that much on Alphie's mind.... [bats eyelashes].

Nonono, you didn't freak me -- I was just alarmed that I might have promised something I completely forgot, which is sadly possible.
