See, this is why I can't have anything nice. Either I ferret it away to keep it safe, unseen and forgotten -- or it gets taken away from me. It doesn't much matter if 'it' is material or immaterial, a thing or a concept, I don't get to keep nice things.

Medeni dies, my charm necklace breaks, my friends move half-continents away, other people discard me like a used Kleenex, Farscape gets cancelled for not one single good reason... I get my brand-new dog-design Starbucks insulated tumbler filled up with piping hot buttered cider, it falls out of my bag onto the hard floor of the Target checkout line and cracks inside and out before I can take one sip of $2.60 of beverage.

It's useless, except as a pencil cup or something. It was nice, and now I've made it junk.

I don't get to keep nice things. They always get ruined.

AND I made their nice new floor all sticky.

you

Possessions only dear. Family and friends don't break when you drop them on the floor, no matter how hard you throw. And a friend half a world away now a days is not an issue. Heavens, I'm half a nation away and we talk. What else? Take the darn cup back and tell them it cracked from the hot beverage! And I've got plenty of charms and necklesses...how many do you want?

No, but you can't see them and hang with them when it costs at 12 hours and 3000 miles just to visit. 3-D. Smell-o-vision. Rubbing auras.

And I can't take a cup back that was a birthday present and not carried by the store and lie about it, because it was given to me and it was special because of that.

And it's my Medeni Ci-Jones animagi necklace. It was... erm. A present from Sirius. I have to find the time and concentration to sit down and try to re-attach itty-bitty links.

But it's a nice pencil cup.

And I offered to fix the charm necklace. The fact that it broke wasn't you, it was the way I made it, eh? Send the pieces back; I'll fix it and it will be better than before. See, that's what happens: things break, then in mending they're strengthened.

Promise.

I get the feeling hugs aren't exactly the right thing right now - I don't want to come across as patronizing - but since I'm absolute rubbish at saying the right thing, I'll give hugs nonetheless. *HUGS*

If it matters at all, I think you are a nice thing.

On the bright side, the Farscape mini-series to close off the loose ends is in production right now.

I'd be a lot happier if it weren't JUST tying up loose ends, if you follow my meaning. I'm convinced that series had at least a 7-year lifespan, if not longer. They weren't losing their wind at all.

You'd be wrong, given that David Chase envisioned it from the beginning as a five-year series. :)

OK, I don't think I ever ran across that firmly stated myself. It's a rich universe, though....

Like people already said, the distance doesn't make your friends less friendly then they are. :)

As for Farscape, I don't know if you heard it or not, but the Jim Henson Company decided to finish it. For more info look here and here. :)

At least that is good news, right?

It's not one thing or the other -- it's the whole concatenation of things, straws and camels' corgis' backs and all... y'know?

Puppies make it all better. Hug your dogs. They're nice, I'm sure. And anyone who discards you isn't worth having anyway.

Howling MadD'Argo's over there, the brat. :)

And yeah, that's why I have found some non-discarding people... with no material existence instead. Frustrating.

well, at least friends don't break, do they? they might just be slow in sending parcels.

sorry I can't console you by threatening a trip to Florida, but trips abroad are cancelled for the foreseeable future. that said, if you do intend to hop on that new direct Continental flight from NY to Scotland, there is always an attic bedroom with a view of the Pentland Hills for you ...

You -have- friends half-continents and more away, who care about you and love you and think about you, even if you're not there all the time.

Corgi, you effect and influence dozens of people and more just by your existence. Please know that we love you.

- Charm necklace can be fixed.
- Your friends that have moved half-continents away love you still
- People who discard you like a used Kleenex have their own issues and you shouldn't take it personally.
- I don't know the particulars to understand why Farscape was canceled
- Actually, a pencil cup is very handy...especially if it is pleasant to look at.

*Hugs* - we may have different beliefs/different hobbies and interest...but I say this as your friend - I think you are an amazing person.
