Dog is no longer resident here, as a guest or anything else. Yesterday, after a 12-hour shift (the sinking ship still need coverage, after all), I took Dog up to Broward Humane and then D'Argo to the vet to make sure his eye didn't get more damage than I thought. See, after playing so nicely with D'Argo and the girls previous, Dog and D got into a real fight, pretty much right on top of me. D'Argo won, effectively, but Dog has this unnerving technique of going for the eyes. I told Blade, I think, that he should really be the lead in a Jack London novel.

So off he went, to the shelter in the area that has the best adoption reputation - but as a stray surrender, he's got to pass their temperment tests or off to Animal Control he goes. :/ [crosses paws]

I failed, you know. It shouldn't've come to this.

*sigh*

It's rather quieter here now.

Gemma continues to be naughty. Naughty, naughty, naughty. Myfanwy and I think it's a brindle thing. In fact...

[gets up to go look for corgwn]
[finds only .5 corgwn]
[makes sure she's reasonably dressed]
[trudges sans eyeglasses around the corner of the block]
[yells at bad dogs]
[trudges home down the middle of the street as Gemma has stopped for a lie and a drink in a gutter puddle on the way]

Meanwhile, my edamame have sprouted, all nine seeds planted!! Let's hope the stalks do well and don't get eaten by one of the infinite numbers of creepy things in this pesthole environment - which has gone warm, incidentally.

Girl Genius has gone very tense/exciting, Second Life is all sorts of busy, and I still have pictures of various things I haven't shown you yet. And after staying up so much AND so late yesterday, I didn't sleep that well. I probably should have closed up the bedroom and turned the A/C on - where's my proper snowy cold fronts? Argh.

So.... anybody want a dog?

From outside looking in, I don't see that you failed. Dog's temperament wasn't amenable to being changed, by your best treatment and a pack to socialise him.
I can understand that it *feels* as if *you failed* him, but you gave him the best environment possible. It's as sensible to say *he* failed *you*- but how could a stray whose personality was formed elsewhere really do that?

What Cerrb said. It takes two to tango, after all -- you did the best you could by Dog, and gave him every chance, but he didn't fit into your pack. Plain and simple. (Yes indeed, that was me you mentioned it all to in chat the other night.)

On some level, perhaps you knew the relationship was temporary -- honestly, "Dog" is only a good name for a dog if you're Adam Young. ;]

Thank you both, but I also didn't get him adopted out, either. That was merely due to a lack of effective effort on my part [guilty look]. One fortnight's run in PetFinders does not equal 'effective effort'.

You did the right thing, dear. Your first contract was with D'Argo, not with Dog, and you had to do what was best all around.

Oh, that I'm sure of, but other than the lack of adoption thing (just-plain my own lack of trying), I feel like I wasn't a strong enough alpha to make things work.

>:D< Glad you're back home safe.

The fact that you were unable to keep Dog doesn't mean you are a failure. *Hugs* Some dogs just aren't made for certain packs. I had a similar situation with two of my dogs, and you've done much better than I did.

Wasn't trying to keep him, per se, but I'd be much more comfortable knowing what happened to him. You don't happen to know any benevolent hackers who'd like to find some information for me, do you?

Some dogs you just can't reach. He wasn't a bad dog, just one with unfortunate tendencies that prohibit him from co-existing with the pre-existing pack.*

Meanwhile, Gypsy decided to catch, at Oh-Dark-Hundred this A.M., a rabbit.
I think she did it on her own, as Mac expressed no opinion whatever. (Last time, he was all, "Da-ad, Gypsy got my bunny! Make her stop!"

*Yep, more buzz words than a beehive fulla bureaucrats.

Atta girl, Gypsy! I think. ^_^

On further rumination, I'd say that alpha-Corgi protected her pack.

It sounds like you did the best you could. Hopefully, your care and patience will rub off and make the poor mutt adoptable...

Yay for edamame!
