The extra-spiffy Allah Sulu has not only added MY LiveJournal sprites to his collection for Allah Sulu's Massive Tool (look here -- I did the Serenity-'verse and Girl Genius, but I forgot Othar! [selenesue] *hand-staple-forehead* [/selenesue]) BUT has also provided Welsh ys!

Ŷ and ŷ are coded as Ŷ and ŷ respectively. You have to use a real ampersand at the beginning of the codes, of course; what you're seeing here is actually an ampersand symbol, but... that's getting complicated.

Anyway, it works. Tell your ffrindiau.

Either download the Massive Tool -- ermmmm... dunno how it works on Macs, I just realised -- or go to his reference page, which is the bolded 'here' in my post (http://dammitja.net/lj/asmt.html), and use the web interface. :D

The Tool's community is the 2nd LJ referenced, for tips and updates and such; his personal LJ is the first one.

(Kaylee-sprite has a Really Big Wrench and a smudge of grease on one cheek. ;) )

Well, about half of the time I post from work, where I use a PC. Call me bilingual. Nobody cares what programs I have on it, as long as none of them are viral.

There's a little image displaying before everybody's username which tells you if they're a single user, a community or a syndicated account. I'm calling them 'sprites' because they're really small (17x17 on average), but I'm not sure there's an official name.

What Allah Sulu's Massive Tool does, among other things, is allow you to insert a custom sprite in place of the automatic LJ one. It uses a relatively large amount of code - two separate URLs, an image tag and the text for the displayed name - compared to <lj user=[username]>, but it's /really cool/.

Good guess! 'Ffrindiau' is the plural of the English loanword in Welsh for 'friends'. The Ys to which I referred, in case they didn't read correctly for you, are the capital and lower-case y-with-circumflex. Or with-hat, whatever the blasted symbol is called. The ironic thing is that I'm not really sure what difference in sound the accent makes....

isnt' it fatnastic to write out codes i nascii and use sometign else forthe variable and the nget completley messed up i nal lthe differetntypes of accolades.

i'm guessgin any welsh Y soudnsthe same unels theyr'e sil yenough to put a capital Y circumflex (is i the roof-shaped one?) inthe middle of aword which i hopethey don't because..there's the asia nlanguages that couple semantics to different intonatioons of one and the same word adn there's greek with it's 21 cases if i'm not mistaken 9or was it danish?) adn that's enough to drive me nuts. heh.

It's the 'info thingie', yes. The Massive Tool has a field for an alt-tag, but I've been lazy *blush*. It's HTML, so you can paste the thing anywhere on the and it'll work, unlike the LJ-proprietary 'user' and 'comm' tags. It doesn't relate to the userpics at all.

The 'ŷ' is good for the word for 'house' which is 'tŷ'. It's not real common....

heeee. that took me three minutes! that is a fantastic way for unpaid users to use icons. do you onl yuse the mfor info to your own journal or do you make stufffor comunities you're on? or for friends?
