YAY! The Hummer is moribund!

P.S. According to these numbers in the Washington Post, there were less than 4000 H1 Hummers sold ever. Statistically, it seems improbable then that I should keep FINDING myself behind them in a city of this size! Did they sell a quarter of those in South Florida??

Gay rights groups and same-sex marriage advocates are urging gay workers to call in sick or take the day off Wednesday in protest of the passage of gay marriage bans passed last month in Arizona, California, Florida and Arkansas.

The “Day Without a Gay” effort encourages gays and other who oppose same-sex marriage bans to take off work and volunteer for an advocacy group.

The passage of California’s Proposition 8 came as a surprise to many. It received strong support from Mormon voters, as well as from Hispanic and African-American voters who turned out for Barack Obama in the presidential race.

The “day off” concept mirrors past efforts to have immigrant (mostly Hispanic) workers take a day off work to show their economic importance.

The Prop. 8 vote came after California’s Supreme Court overturned a previous same-sex marriage prohibition.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a prime backer of California’s and Arizona’s gay marriage bans. In Arizona, the ban also received support from Hispanic voters.
