I got 5 seconds of Flist today, go me [/wry]. So here's two interesting bits I'm echoing:

From [livejournal.com profile] firedrake_mor, who got it from [livejournal.com profile] nonfluffypagans:

Stand Up, Stand Up for Wicca [Quoted in part]

'...Yet by refusing to place the Wiccan symbol on Sgt. Stewart's memorial plaque, while permitting symbols of other religions and non-religions, the government is clearly engaging in viewpoint discrimination—which is a shoddy way to treat someone who has died in service to his country.

Having posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart to Sgt. Stewart, the U.S. government intends that he should be remembered for his bravery and sacrifice. Yet what his widow, Roberta Stewart, will remember is the fact that her husband died defending the country that is denying him the right to express his religious freedom....'

Constitutional attorney and author John W. Whitehead is founder and president of The Rutherford Institute.

My gods... there IS hope.

But on the other paw....

[livejournal.com profile] martinhesselius said, in response to the National Guard (we have some left?!?) being sent to build border fencing:

Building (more) fences - there (fiction):
In Heinlein's "If This Goes On—" Nehemiah Scudder, the backwoods preacher who becomes President and then the first perpetual Prophet Incarnate (i.e., dictator), isn't elected until 2012. Wasn't there a wall around the US in this tale? But then writing SF isn't an exact science. I hope:
