You think you have computer problems? The Leaky Cauldron said this earlier: We're at 250% of our bandwidth allotment for the month. And we have a huge bandwidth allotment, and it's a superfast server...which is being "adversely affected" by the site....

It's got a plaster on it for the moment, but... jeeeeez. :)

The West Wing Season Two Region 1 DVDs are now available for preorder. Unless you've already done so through another worthy cause, why not help out FictionAlley with its server fundraising, and click here to order your own?

So -- does this look like a decently-Egypto-Grecian ship?

My plotting of the shape of the 'obsolete' constellation of Argo Navis

I finally got my graphics sorted out, pasted together a big chart, and finally found a plotting which made the constellations of Carina (the Keel), Puppis (the Prow), Vela (the Sail) and Pyxis (which should be Mallus (the Mast)) fit together into the ship Argo Navis which they used to be... until the pre/Victorian era got ahold of it.

Whatcha think?

The DNC had a 'Unity Dinner' which was cablecast on CNN2 this evening. My goodness, did you see the lineup they had there? Kerry, of course; but also Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Edwards, Howard Dean, Bob Graham (yay, 'Uncle Bob'!) -- Graham is still doing his workdays, did you know that? Governor, Senator, ex-Presidental hopeful, he's still doing them -- and those are just the ones I could ID in a quick shot.

Gore asked them to remember how they felt in 2000... 'because I do.' [insert appreciative audience noise]

Ooooo... Carter just thanked Howard Dean specifically. And chided Ralph Nader severely. And now he's going to town on the current/recent American failure in the human rights arena. Can we bring him back, like, to the Cabinet?

Now it's Bill's turn! He's remembering all the 'little' candidates, unlike the major media.
"[After 9/11] They took our patriotism, and our unity, and our affection, as a sign of weakness... pushed it to the far right... and divided us all over again."

Let's keep this momentum, shall we? It's so nice to see the Dems acting like something other than the dark side of the Celtic collective personality....

Ben-at-work has come up with the perfect word for what the... not-particularly-loyal Opposition have been acting like -- the big-money people, the arrogant would-be world conquerors: brazen. They used to have to work from behind the sheltering curtain of the right wing of the Republican party, but now... brazen. We need to melt them down.

No, I have not watched the new HP PoA trailer, even before the Cauldron crashed. Anybody surprised? Raise your paw....

I used to be so proud that I shared my name with a constellation...until I found out the real story behind my name (a convoluted narrative that first had to do with nicknames and then boiled over into given first names).

And I haven't seen the trailer, either. Just some nice screen caps.

Aw, you can make your name a constellation if you like!

Your ship looks like one of the Viking longboats. And the constellation names, of course, have been filed away as OC names for stories I might write.

Yes, I agree it's nice to see the Demos pulling together for a change. They are not eating their own young, so to speak...As for Ralph Nader, he should be chastized severely.

Don't mean to spam your LJ, but now that I look at the ship, it looks Egyptian as well as Viking...the trouble with my perspective is that I know so little about different ships. They float, they transport people and things, and every so often they have mutinies. And their wrecks make fascinating archeological digs. That's about my ship-knowledge right there...

*chortle* The nifty thing is, all I did was connect the dots -- I couldn't even really 'see' the design because I was layering it over a star chart, which was kinda busy. Once I dropped the background out, I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm just wondering why all the other depictions of the individual constellation-segments are drawn so ineptly!

Well, drat, I missed seeing this in time to do me any good. :( I happen to have Friday as my 'Sunday' until the end of the month, so I wouldn't be at work -- but didn't see this until noon-thirty... and I'm not even dressed yet.

[insert gloom-cloud here]
